Mat Care
💕SHOW YOUR YOGA MAT SOME LOVE 💕
Yoga mats are durable, but they aren’t indestructible!
We often think of a yoga mat as a "buy-it-once" item, but in reality, it is a technical consumable. Consider your favourite premium yoga leggings: you likely own several pairs that you rotate throughout the week. Yet, for most dedicated yogis, their mat is the hardest working item in their gym bag—underfoot for every single class, absorbing 100% of the heat, sweat, and friction of a daily practice.
Just as a runner’s shoes naturally wear with every mile, your mat is a high-performance tool that evolves with use. Our eco-friendly materials require TLC, and their longevity will depend on the intensity of your journey: how frequently you flow, the studio environment (such as Infrared heat), your cleaning methods, whether pets spend time on the mat, and how the mat is stored.
Treating your mat with the same care as your technical apparel ensures it performs at its peak for as long as possible.
Please refer to the detailed care instructions below for details on how to properly maintain each type of mat. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us—we are always happy to assist you.

ALL-IN-ONE YOGA MAT
The All-In-One yoga mat features a soft, microfibre suede surface. Unlike other mats, its "wet grip" is activated by moisture. For immediate traction before you work up a sweat, we recommend lightly spraying or sprinkling water on the surface before your practice begins.
Even if you don’t typically use a yoga towel, the All-In-One mat is worth considering—it is engineered specifically to thrive in daily consistent high-heat, heavy perspiration sessions and infrared studios. They are also our easiest to care for and most durable option.
Daily Cleaning: Hand washing or wiping down the suede surface after each use will keep your mat in peak condition. We recommend using a natural mat spray (like our calming Lavender and Tea Tree spray) and a soft cloth to refresh the surface.
Deep Cleaning & Washing: Treat this mat like your favourite pair of jeans: machine wash only when a deep clean is necessary.
- Machine Settings: Use a front-loading washer (no agitator) on a delicate cycle with cold water and a mild, natural detergent. Never use bleach.
- Drying Process: It is important to remove excess water with a towel (press firmly, do not wring) before hanging the mat to dry. This prevents the rubber base from stretching.
- Crucial Warning: Never put your mat in the dryer or dry it in direct sunlight, as this will damage the natural rubber and suede bond.
Drying & Storage: Allow your mat to air-dry completely before rolling it up and storing it. Always roll the mat with the suede surface facing out to keep the corners flat for your next practice.
Usage Restrictions: The All-In-One mat is made with eco-friendly materials designed for longevity; however, certain factors will accelerate the degradation process and affect the grip:
- Chemicals & Oils: Repeated machine washing, using harsh cleaners, or wearing lotions, sunscreens, and body oils can compromise the suede’s traction.
- Environment: Avoid long-term exposure to the sun and keep the mat away from pets, as claws can puncture the surface.
Depending on how the mat is treated and the frequency of use, it is normal to experience wear and tear anywhere from 6 months to 3 years after purchase.
PRO GRIP ORIGINAL & PRO GRIP LUXE MATS
The Pro Grip series is a high-performance tool designed for those who prioritize an unbeatable, non-slip surface. Because this specialized material works hard to absorb moisture and provide elite grip, it requires specific care to maintain its high-functioning "open-cell" structure. Think of it as a high-performance athlete: with the right care, it will perform at its peak for you.
-
Before First Use: The PU and rubber may give off a slight natural odor when first opened; lay it flat to dissipate over 24 hours. As the design is laser-engraved, we recommend a wipe-down with warm water before your first session to remove any microscopic residue.
-
Daily Cleaning: It is most sanitary to clean the mat right after you practice so sweat doesn't settle. Use a soft cloth with only water or a PU-safe spray (like our Lavender and Tea Tree yoga mat cleaner). We recommend spraying in small sections and wiping immediately in a circular motion before the liquid is fully absorbed. Skip studio sprays; their high concentration of alcohol and essential oils act as solvents that compromise the material over time.
-
Surface Maintenance: Pro Grip mats feature an "open-cell" surface for maximum grip. With regular use, it is normal for the top layer to show patches of wear or slight flaking/peeling. This is cosmetic and a natural progression of a well-used, high-traction tool.
-
Drying & Storage: Always hang your mat to dry 100% before rolling. To protect the surface, roll it with the PU (grip) side facing out. Storing a wet, rolled mat can cause the surface to stick, leading to odors or peeling. Never leave your mat in a vehicle for extended periods.
-
Safe Cleaning for Longevity: To keep your mat pristine, use only water or designated PU-safe sprays. Avoid studio sprays and do not use vinegar, lemon juice, bleach, undiluted dish soap or scrub with anything abrasive.
-
Preserve the Grip: For the best traction, practice with skin free of heavy lotions, oils, or sunscreens. These can transfer to the material, darkening the surface and weakening the grip over time.
-
Protect Your Investment: The Pro Grip specialized PU surface is susceptible to damage from abrasive friction. Usage of running shoes or contact with pet claws can cause permanent scuffing and accelerate wear. Not for outdoor use.
-
A Note on Yoga Towels: If you prefer a towel, please choose one without silicone dots, as the friction from the grips can damage the specialized PU surface.
- The Daily Practitioner's Rotation: If movement is your daily passion, your gear should be as committed as you are. A professional mat performs best when it starts every session 100% dry. For sweaty or heated practices, we recommend rotating between two or more mats. This "recovery period" allows the internal core of the Pro Grip mat to fully desaturate, protecting the material’s structural integrity and ensuring the surface remains durable and responsive for the long term.
Deep Cleaning: Only when absolutely necessary (maximum once a month).
While a simple water wipe-down is best for daily use, The Diluted Natural Dish Soap Method helps restore the mat's signature grip by breaking down body oils and sweat salts. Over-cleaning, scrubbing or using harsh chemicals will break down the PU surface faster.
A Quick "Dilution" Checklist: Before you begin, keep these Three S Rules in mind:
- Scent-Free: Use a natural soap without heavy perfumes or dyes.
- Small Amount: If the water looks like a bubble bath, you’ve used too much! It should only look slightly cloudy.
- Surface Only: Always wipe, never soak. Submerging your mat can damage the open-cell structure.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Mix: Add 1–2 drops of mild, natural dish soap to a large bowl of warm water.
- Wipe: Use a soft microfiber cloth (wrung out well) to gently wipe the surface.
- Rinse: Wipe again with a clean cloth dampened only with fresh water.
-
Dry: Lay the mat flat in a cool, shaded area until 100% dry before rolling.
Depending on treatment and frequency of use, it is normal to experience some wear and tear anywhere from 3 months to 1 year after purchase. Not for outdoor use. Not machine washable.
CORK YOGA MAT
Our Cork yoga mats feature a sustainable, natural cork top layer and a dense tree rubber base. Cork is naturally antimicrobial, containing organic compounds called Phenolics that repel bacteria, fungus, and unpleasant odours, keeping your mat fresh and hygienic with minimal effort.
Daily Cleaning: Because cork is naturally self-cleaning, a heavy scrub is rarely needed. After practice, simply wipe the surface with a soft, damp cloth. If a deeper clean is required, use a mild, organic cleaning solution or a designated yoga mat spray. Not machine washable.
Drying & Storage: Cork naturally repels moisture and dries very quickly. After a sweaty session or cleaning, hang the mat or lay it flat to dry completely before storing.
-
Rolling: Always roll your mat with the cork side facing out. This protects the organic fibers of the cork and ensures the mat lays flat during your next practice.
-
Environment: Store your mat in the shade and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to prevent the rubber base from drying out.
Surface Performance: The grip of a cork mat actually increases as you sweat! If you find you need more traction at the start of a session, you can lightly spray the mat with a bit of water to "activate" the grip.
Longevity: Depending on the frequency of use and how the mat is treated, it is normal to experience some wear and tear anywhere from 6 months to 3 years after purchase.
